Table of Contents

Bluesky engagement is now included in NewsWhip's article-level scoring, helping you surface stories gaining traction across one of the fastest-growing platforms for professional and public discourse.

What's Changed

Article scores now reflect engagement from Bluesky alongside existing signals from Facebook, X, and Reddit. This applies across the following Spike features:

  • Article Scoring & Ranking — Total interaction counts, velocity scores, and overperforming metrics now include Bluesky engagement.
  • Article Details — Bluesky appears as a contributing source in the article-level engagement breakdown. View the network-by-network distribution via "View details" on any article in the web widget.
  • Search & Dashboards — Bluesky signals are incorporated into ranking and sorting, helping surface stories with high engagement.
  • Timeline — Bluesky engagement contributes to article timelines, with a dedicated Bluesky line visible in the interaction chart. Hover over the total interaction count to see the per-network breakdown.
  • Leaderboards (Top People & Brands, Top Authors, Top Websites) — Bluesky interactions are factored into total and individual network interaction counts. You can also sort by Bluesky interactions specifically.
  • Alerts & Digests — Bluesky data contributes to total interaction counts used in real-time threshold alerts and scheduled digests.
  • Highlights & Change of Interest — Bluesky engagement is included in interaction volume calculations.
  • Reports & Exports — Bluesky interaction data appears in PDF, CSV, and JSON exports, both totalled and broken out by network.

FAQ

Does this require any setup?
No. Bluesky data is integrated natively and is automatically available to all users.

Will this change historical article scores?
No. Bluesky scoring applies to articles from the release date forward, and up to 28 days prior. Historical scores before that window remain unchanged.

Why am I seeing higher total interaction counts or more alerts than usual?
The inclusion of Bluesky data will result in an uplift in total interaction counts, velocity scores, and overperforming volumes — particularly for breaking news, tech, politics, and media-heavy topics. This is expected behavior. Real-time threshold alerts may trigger more frequently, and timeline period comparisons may show significant uplift when comparing current data (with Bluesky) to previous periods (without). These effects will naturally normalize over a 28-day period.

How can I see interactions without Bluesky for comparison?
Use the network filters in the web widget and leaderboards to isolate specific networks (e.g., X or Facebook). You can also hover over the total interaction count in Timeline to see the per-network breakdown.

What does the "Article interactions include Bluesky from [date]" message mean?
If your selected time range overlaps with the Bluesky release date, in-product messaging will inform you that Bluesky data is only available from the release date forward, helping you set expectations for comparison data.

Why does the Bluesky chart line look flat right after release?
Because there is limited historical backfill, early Bluesky data may have very few data points per article. The Bluesky chart line will become more visible as more scoring data accumulates.
